Equestria Girl 4ply Off The Shoulder Dress

DSC00817

This will work with most 4ply yarn except cottons. As Equestria Girls have a tiny upper body you need a good stretch to get over the hips and the arms through, which cotton tends not to have. This pattern is worked in the round from the bottom up, but could potentially be worked straight, I would add an extra stitch to allow the give needed to stretch at the back seam

K=knit, P=purl, sts=stitches, K2tog= knit 2 together, NR= Next Row, instructions in round brackets repeat as stated.

Using 2mm needles and 4ply yarn cast on 30sts and join to work in the round

Work 1 round in K1 P1 rib

NR: K to end

Repeat the last row until work measures 2 inch from cast on edge

NR: (K1,K2tog) to end – 20sts

Continue stocking stitch and knit until work measures 3 inches from cast on edge

NR for underarms: K4, cast off 2, K8, cast off 2, K4

NR: K4, cast on 4, K8, cast on 4, K4 – 24st

Work K1,P1 rib for 3 rows

Cast off loosely in rib

Neaten ends.

Slip on from feet up, It will be a slight wiggle to get the arms in but needed to keep it neat over the bust and shoulders. I find putting one arm in at hip level, then bending the elbow so hand is across body and wiggling it through the hole works best for me.

I’m a parent… if you don’t need to take elbow or knee joints off, you don’t do it… once kids know you can they do it all the time and then parts get broken or lost 😀

Using aran yarn and 4mm needles.

Cast on 24sts and join to work in the round

Work k1p1 rib for 5 rounds working in back of the knit stitches as this makes the rib more defined

Work 2 more rounds of k1p1 rib

NR: k2 tog through back loops – 12sts

NR – k2 tog through back loops – 6sts

Break yarn, thread through remaining stitches, pull tight and fasten off.

Neaten ends.

Place on head working the ear points through the two holes.

For a deeper hat over the forehead work 7 rounds instead of 5 at the start.

Doll’s Purse

DSC00814

Here I used 2mm needles and hook and lurex yarn to make an evening bag. This could be done with any 4ply to make a day time bag, or with larger needles and DK yarn for a larger bag.

Cast on 10 sts

Knit 1 row for top edge ridge.

Starting knit work 13 rows Stocking Stitch (1 row knit, 1 row purl) ending on a knit row

Knit 1 row to make bottom ridge fold.

Starting knit Stocking Stitch 13 more rows

Knit 1 row for top edge ridge

Cast off but do not fasten off final stitch.

Remove final loop from needle and insert 2mm crochet hook.

Chain for approx 9cm for 9″ dolls or approx 12cm for 12″ dolls. Fasten off.

Fold knitted piece in half along the fold ridge and sew up the sides. Fix the loose end of the strap to the other seam of the opening.

You can make the strap longer or shorter to your preference.

Maybe add a short fringe and beads to the fold edge loops.

Maybe some sequins or other tiny embellishment.
